– 5 – Q: In her essay, Carlina Rinaldi stresses the difference between documentation that is collected during an experience but interpreted only at the end (a traditional way of using documentation for assessment), and documentation as part of the process of fostering learning, interpreted and reinterpreted in order to develop with the children, theories that give meaning to events and objects in their world (the process developed in the Reggio Emilia educational system). What are your observations about the traditional approach to documentation, which is more commonly used in the United States? What do you believe are the positive aspects of this approach?
